CHICAGO TO LEAD WORLD
Shabbona, 111., Sept. 4-Special-In an address to the old settlers o. f DeKalb county today Gov. Deneen drew a picture of a tremenduously great future for Chicago after the completion of the deep water way system, predicting that in twenty years Chicago would be the greatest city in the world. —Chicago Tribune, Sept. 5, ’O7. Above is an extract from the Chicago Tribune, referring to Governor Deneen’s address at Shabbona Grove, on Sept. sth, 1907. I have been cognizant of this fact for some time, and it it is true, (which I believe,) it will work very great wonders everywhere near the south end of Lake Michigan, and the public is greatly interested in It. If it is true that Chicago is going to produce a city, (the largest in the world,) within the life time of people who lived at the organizaiou of the city, it will be something never before witnessed in the world, and the influence of this great city is going to be possibly greater than that of any other city in the world, especially on form property located within one hundred miles of Chicago, and no doubt this has caused the great advance in farm lands in Illinois, (many selling at over S2OO per acre) and which would have been wild to have talked about a few years ago; and do doubt the favored locality will lie in the direction of the Panama Canal, or to the south or southeast of the great city. Yours truly, Benj. Gifford.
