Yesterday was the first day of the September term of the Jasper circuit court, and was the day set for the docketing of the petition for the lowering and straightening of the channel oifthe Kankakee"river. Quite a number of interested parties were here and others were represented by The legality of thO proceedings was questioned by Attorney Brace, of Crown point wbo claimed that there was now no legal provision of appointing ditch commissioners.
