Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 39, Number 101, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 27 August 1907 — Has the Best Wheat Yet. [ARTICLE]
Has the Best Wheat Yet.
Harvey Wood, jr., who resides on Capt. Wasson’s farm 4$ miles southeast of town, has just finished thrashing his wheat and has surpassed the record of his neighbor Henry Eiglesbach. Harvey had out 21 acres that produced 606 bushels an average of 28 6-7 bushels per acre, while 9 acres of this 21 averaged 32 1-3 busfiels. Henry Eiglesbach did not have out so many acres, and had an average of 27 bushels on 12 acres and 4 of these gave him an average of 30 J bushels. Both yields are very excellent and even if sold at 73 cents, the present price, will give a good profit. Jasper county is becoming a better wheat county eaca year, and with the greater certainty of a crop has come naturally a greater acreage. 75 cent wheat at 20 bushels to the acre is as good as 30 cent oats at 50 bushels to the acre. Let other sections of the county report the wheat crop.
