Says Citizen Is A Naughty Citizen. Mrs. Emma Citizen of Wheatfield township, has begun suit for a divorce from her husband, Frank L. Citizen. She states in her complaint that they were married on July 11, 1904 and lived together until Nov. 1906, when they separated. She sets up the biblical cause for divorce, and names one Anna Schultz in that connection, on Oct. 12, and divers other dates thereafter. She also says that for [two years before they finally separated he wholly failed to make any provisions for her support. She wants a divorce and her maiden name restored. LADY AERONAUT AT FAIR.
Secretary Travis Makes Contract With Lady Ballonist for County Fair. Determined to give the people their moneys woith when they at tended the fair at LalayetteSeptem ber 2 6. Secretary Travis has made a contract with Wiss-Mabel Davenport. a uoted aeronaat, to make daily balloon ascensions and pat a chute leaps during the biggest county fair in t e state. A balloon ascension is always fascinating and the ascents of Miss Davenport, a beautitul bruuette of eighteen, will take on added chairm. Miss Davenport is petite, weighing only ninety five pounds, but she has the required arnouut of nerve to make ascensions several thousand leet The management of the tair is leav ing no stone unturned to make the fair bigger and better than ever, and the securing of Mias Davenport iu addition to the already elaborate program of entertainment should convince the people that they are going to get something lor their money. Over £7,000 is given for speed alone, assuring the best races seen on the track. The t % grounds never looked so beautiful as now and everythin, points to a very successful fair, a place for people to go and enjoy themselves.
Virgie Combatant Fined.
The details of a fracas at V irgie on Sunday, Aug. 11th, have not aud probably will not ever come to surface, but one of the sidelights of the aflair resulted in a flue being assessed against John Cooper in Squire S. C Irwin’s couit Saturday night. Chas. E. Sworts was the prosecuting witnesses and alleged that John Cooper and brother and Chas. Fish had come over to the house of his employer, Orie Yeoman, on the above date and that Fish and John Cooper stood to one side while the other Cooper pummeled Orie up iu great shape. Charlie finally decided that Yeoman had had more - than was coming to nim and undertook to drive oft his adversary when John Cooper gave him a stiff punch in the jaw, knocking him down. He did not make an affidavit against Cooper until last week and Deputy Sheriff - Oliver Robinson served the warrant last Saturday and brought Cooper here withjhim. He plead guilty and Squire Irwin assessed the minimum fine of 11, with the cost appended made $17.65. The fine was stayed by Cooper’s father.
Death Of Mrs. C. P. Hopkins.
The McEwen, Tenu., New Era of Aug. 16th, gives particulars of the death at that place on Aug. sth of Mrs. Etta A. Hopkins, wife of C. P. Hopkins, and formerly for quite a number of years, a resident of Rensselaer, where there are still a number of her husband’s relatives. She and her husband were also residents of Remington for a number of years. While the|fam ily lived iu Rensselaer Mr. Hopkins was employed for a time as a printer in the Republican office, and later was associated with H. B. James iu an unsuccessful newspaper veuture. At Remingtou he published the Press for quite a number of years. The family has been at McEwen for aoout 12 or 13 years, and where also they have published a newspaper, largely thru her direct assistance. The cause of her death was ah iuternal cancer, and her age was a few months past 49 years.
Special Train Lafayette Fair.
The Monon will run a special train to Lafayette on Thursday, Sept. sth on account of the Tippecanoe county fair. The train will leave Rensselaer at 7:30 a. m. Persons who like good racing aud other county* fair features will doubtless see a good program at Lafayette and many are apt to go from here.
