Happy New Year Goes Quick Quarter.
Ike Glazebrook’s Dan Patch filly, “Happy New Year,” exhibited before the public Thursday for the first time as a runner, and went an exhibition quarter thru Washington street attached to a sulky of none too sound parts. Ike was indulging in his daily pasttime of exercising the colt and was over on River street when a shaft broke and the colt took fright. Ike headed her over the bridge and thru Washington street, and the loose bolts and *ires and disjointed shaft made a clatter that brought every business man to his front door. Ike’s sandy beard gracefully floated across his shoulders and he clung onto the lines and leaned forward like a finished driver. “Ike’s all right, if the sulky holds up,” said someone as the two-wheeled music box raised several inches in the air when it struck the courthouse crossing. A moment later the outfit safely rounded the Division street corner, and Ike brought her to a standstill in front of Judge Hanley’s residence. “Suspenders are a danged nuts ance, anyway,” said Ike, as he jerked his off and tied the disabled shaft with them. Happy New Year is a good colt, whether'pacing or running. .
