OPERA HOUSE ' OPENS AUG. 19th.

Manager Ellis thinks he has booked the best plays ever in Rensselaer for the early season, at Lift opera house “On Aug. 19tb the fall season will open with the popular play “The Trust Buster,” and on Aug. 20th comt-s the “Millionaire Tramp.” On Aug. 31st we are to have a very fine performance, if the reputation of a manager and his style of doing business can be depended upon. The performance is that of “A Dangerous Friend” and it comes under the direction of Fred G. Conrad, who pays cash for his newspaper advertising and does business in a high class manner. It was he who sent the play “A Wise Woman” to Manager Ellis several years ago, and no play ever put on the Ellis stage so completely captivated an audience. “A Danger ous Friend” is certainly a high class play, and the performers better than usually visit cities of this size. Some time in September, the date having not yet been set, a pretty little operetta entitled “Toyland” will be here, and Miss Gama Frances Gillette is starring in it. Miss Gillette is now in Chicago and received considerable notoriety last week by her successful encounter with a street highwayman. He grabbed at her chatelaine purse and she hurriedly took a hat pin from her hat and jabbed the wouldbe robber several times in the arms and body, causing him to cry out in great agony. Miss Gillette is a well known actress and plays the part of Doll in “Teyland.” Manager Ellis says he has made every effort to secure only firetclaas performances and he believes the early bills will please all theatre goers.
