A. Green Smith Dead.
Alonzo Green Smith, a former attorney general of Indian, died Monday morning at his home in Indianapolis, after a long illness. Smith came into prominence {when he was made president of the state senate by the democratic majority in 1887. The late Col. Roberton, of Fort Wayne, republican defeated John C. Wilson, of Logansport for the lieutenant generalship, but Robertson was counted out after a bitter fight in the senate of the state assembly. Smith being the leader of the democratic forces, the latter party securing the organization, succeeded in electing Hon. David Turpie to the United States senate over BeDjamin Harriscn the Republican candidate. Mr. Smith was afterwards elected attorney general of the state.
