Horse Thief Left, Lunatic Taken.

Sheriff Henry Stoner cf Newton county came over from Kentland Tuesday morning bringing over and placing in our jail, Frank Diddle, the noted horse stealer and stolen horse dealer, of Pariß w 111., whose ambitions operations were not tonfined to the narrow limits of a single state. He was held at Kentland a little longer than was intended as he seems thoroly repentant and anxious to help locate and reclaim as many of the stolen horses and buggies as he can, and was kept in Kentland for that purpose. Large ly thru his help five Newton county horses have been recovered for the owners, and one from near Goodland has been located at Indianapolis and will be recovered, and also one from Benton county. The two Hoopeston, 111., horses, have also been recovered. Diddle is also anxious to help locate his two confederates in the business, and who seem to have done most of the actual stealing, while “old man” Diddle was kept busy at home disposing of the stolen property. The population of our jail was not actually increased any by Bheriff Stoner’s visit, as while he: brought a thief he took away~a lunatic, the same being Fred Ellis, from Brook, whose bringing here last week to await bis reception in Lougclifi asylum, was mentioned at the time. He has now been accepted ttnd Sheriff Stoner took him over Tuesday, and was assisted by Deputy Sheriff Joe O’ConDor, of this county.
