THE HAGENBECK & WALLACE CIRCUS
Big Menagerie and Circus to Be Here on Aug. 23rd. The big Hagenbeck-Wallace, circus is coining to Rensselaer, and it is likely to be the largest circus tlmtege r pn 7ne to this coiinty. The date is Friday, August 23rdr* and it comes at a reason following the small harvest and when threshing will be pretty well along, and should draw an immense crowd, perhaps the largest crowd that was ever here on a single day. This will be good news to everyone. We have not had not really big circus since the Ben Wallace show was here some four years ago. Now the Wallace show iscombined with the Carl Hagenbeck animal show and it has produced a marvelously big and fine show. The city and surrounding conn try will be billed within the next few days. Arrangements were made to cover all bill boards and to send out bill posters to all near.by towns and country points, while the newspapers will be full of show advertising. Judging from the contracts, this show carries as large a number of people and possible a larger number of people than any other of the big circuses. The bread contract was made on a basis of feeding 987 people and there never been a larger number carried in the history of American amusements. The agent also arranged for a lot on which the circus will exhibit. The lot requirements are much larger than was needed by the last circus. The agent says there are twelve tents in all. The menagerie tent with this circus is much larger than that with other shows on ac count of the consolidation of the two zoos, and the horse tent is unusually large, as many horses are requred to take the animals in the street parade —a feature which is never eliminated and which always causes much favorable comment.
