Record Shipbuilding Year.

According to government reports for the last fiscal year, 1,463 vessels, aggregating 510,863 gross tonnage, were built in tbe United States, this being a greater nujpber of vessels and far greater tonnage than daring any other year for half a century. The record shows a steady decline in the building of schooners and a corresponding increase In steamers, but ther* Is now appearing a considerable number of schooners equipped with auxiliary motor power.
