To Stir Up Express Companies

The Indiana Railroad Commission has directed an inquiry, into the express business of the state, the hearings to begin September 3rd. The preamble to the order issued by the commission states that “information and complaints have reached the commission that the rates and earnings of the express companies are excessive and unreasonable; that some of the companies make rates to one point and refuse to make rates for other points reached by them, that deliveries are not made uniformly, as required by law, and that other practices and discrimations prejudicial to shippers are carried on.” The preamble to the order shows that the inquiry involves a probing into the entire express business from every view point.
