A Deep Mystery Has Been Solved.
Washington Democrat: It has long been a mooted question as to the exact meaning of the great seal of the state of Indiana. Bunched together on the seal is the impression of a man with an ax, cutting a huge tree down, and a buffalo bounding by, with the sun just appearing above the eastern horizon. A satisfactory interpretation of its meaning has at last been given by a pioneer of Kansas. “The meaning of the seal is that you have to get up darned early in the morning if you want to catch a buffalo asleep and kill him by chopping down a tree and making it fall on him.”
