Fairbanks Meets a Friend.

Portland, Ore., July 17.—For several hours yesterday Vice President Fairbanks, seated on a baggage truck, entertained the workmen of the railroad section at Goble, Ore,, an ontot-the-way siding, forty miles north of Portland, where, thru a misunderstanding he was let off the train to await the a-rival of a reception committee. Mr. Fairbanks recognized an old acquaintance in the section fore man, who asked the vice-president to his house to breakfast. It was nearly noon when Mr. Fairbanks arrived at xv-storia. An enthusiastic reception was tendered him and during his stay there he visited the United States cruiser Charleston. Last night the vicepresldeut was taken io Seaside, where a banquet was held in his honor.
