Lost Right Fore Finger.
Thomas Crockett, who lives in the east part of town, was the victim of a painful and peculiar accident Friday evening, and which had the serious result of leaving him permanently deprived of the fore finger of his right hand. He was riding in a top buggy and leading a horse behind, which he was taking back to its owner, Wm Day, in the west part of town. Just as he turned into the alley at Mr. Day’s place to approach the oarn, one of the tugs to the harness of the led horse fell down, and the horse stepped on it and was thus brought to a sudden stop. The driven horse of course kept on and the Etrap attached to the led horse tightened up and got wound around Mr. Crockett’s finger and catching his hand against one of the bows which support the buggy top, the entire finger was torn off at the middle joint. Nothing held the finger except two or three slight fibers, and the physician saw it was useless to try to save it, and it wes amputated about half way down to the knuckle joint The injury was not painful at first, owing to paralysis of the nerves by the shock, but later has caused Mr. Crockett a good deal of suffering.
