The Monon Deserves Commendation.
Lafayette Journal: The Monon Railroad company deserves commendation for the fair manner in which it is dealing with the public in regard to the twocent fare rate. There is no disposition to deceive—the company is outspoken in its propositions. The Monon is an Indiana road, nearly all of its mileage being within the state. The public has as. idea that a two cent fare prevails on all roads. The Monon could, if it would, disregard the two cent rate except between points within the state. As the Monon must haul passengers from the Indiana state line into Chicago and across the Ohio river into Louisville it could claim the right, under the interstate decision, to fix the rate as it pleases. A few miles under interstate jurisdiction could be made to influence all rates. But the Monon is observing the spirit of the Indiana law. Advantage is not being taken ot the fact that a few miles into Chicago and a few m’le3 into Louisville gives the company an excuse for dodging. On many of the roads a fine distil ction is being drawn between travel to th j stale line and travel between states. Confusion is the lesult. The Monon is not losing anything by this evidence of fair dealing. Now is the time to tuy your summer suit, special dbcoiiH at Rowles & Parkers big clothing and shoe store/
