Jewish Soldier’s Gallantry.
Sergeant Joseph Miller, D. C. M., of the King's Royal Rllies, who has just received a commission as lieutenant in the King’s African Rifles, Second Battalion, is the first Jew to win the D. C. M. He gained it during the war in Somaliland, and the party of which he was a member were dn a very tight place. There was one chance. If a man could ride through the swarms of armed natives, help might be procured. Without a moment’s hesitation, young Miller volunteered for the mission. He was surrounded in the bush, and his horse was shot under him, but with his revolvers he dispatched four Somalis and was able to attract the attention of the British camp, with the result that assistance arrived in time to rescue tbe Intrepid scout and also to relieve the besieged party on the other side of the bush. —SL James’ Gazette.
