Getting Famous "By Degrees.”
Syracuse University, Syracuse, N. Y., one of the largest colleges in the country, with over 3,000, pupils, has just conferred the degree of L. H. D., Doctor of Humanities, on a well known Logansport citizen, Judge D.~ P. Baldwin;
This is the tenth degree conferred on Judge Baldwin, the others being A. B. by Colegate college, A. M. by delegate, Hamilton [and Wabash, L. L. 8., by Columbia* L. L. D. by Colegate, Hamilton and Wabash; it conferred by Wabash and L. H. D. conferred by Syracuse. The cultivation of the languages, literature, history and archaeology of Greece and Rome, were very commonly called the humanities as distinguished from the divinity.
