A SECRET?MARRIAGE

Miss Kate Mauck of Newton tp.’ and Mr. Frank Critser of Rensselaer went to Chicago to spend Snnday—so they told their friends. They lor some unaccountable reason were delayed and did not return until Monday afternoon. This “unaccountable reason” was fully explained the next day when friends of the bride on Rural route j No. 3 received their Chicago mornpapers and in looking over the “Marriage Licenses” found the

following: ” Frank Critser, Rensselaer, Ind., to Katherine Mauck, san e. In planning this surprise to their friends they had no taken into account that daily papers and telephones play an important in the j farmers’ lives today. The latter were put to good use and in a short | ime a large crowd of friends had fathered at Marion Freeland’s and at a late hour marched silently down upon the unsuspecting couple and made their presence known I to them by firing gnus, ringing bells, beating drams etc.

..Wljen they found it useless to try to persuade the Crowd that they were mistaken, Mr. Critser pro ceeded to the nearest town and procured refreshments while his bride threw her house open to her , friends and received them in her usual cordial manner.

At a late hour—or rather—early next morning their friends departed wishing them the joy and success such an estimable couple deserve.
