Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 39, Number 77, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 31 May 1907 — Comissary Sergeant Sauser on Transport Duty. [ARTICLE]
Comissary Sergeant Sauser on Transport Duty.
J. M. Sauser, the regular army soldier who spent a ninety days furlough in Jasper county last year with the Goetz and Wuerthner families, who are relatives, is now on transport duty between San Fran cisco and Manila, P. I. He has been a commissary sergeant for some years, and has been in the army for more than 20 years. Mr. Sauser is the thrifty kind of a soldier and has accumulated a considerable sum of money and is quite apt to some time return to Jasper county to make it his permanent residence. Contrary to general belief there are a great many thrifty men among the enlisted soldiers of the regular army, and often the wide experience they have had in traveling about the country has given them the opportunity of finding good investments. Mr. Sauser told while here last summer of an acquaintance of his who was worth $50,000 and was a private of many enlistments in the army.
