A Rural Boater's Remarkable Dog.
Elmer E. Ragon, formerly of tie Lowell Tribune, but for over four years a carrier ou a rural route out -of Lowell, h« a dog which has ac <companied him ou all his trips, since the very fir : t. Elmer's picture, along with his dog is given in this week’s Lowell Tribune, with this description: The above is a picture of Elniqr ’E. Ragon, Carrier on Route No. 2 out of Lowell, together with his faithful dog, “Tip” who has been his constant companion on his daily travels foi 41 tear-. The record of '“Tip” as a traveler is hard to beat, if it can be beaten at all. “Tip” is a stocky built dog, in which the bull torrior blood predominates. It matters not what the weather is *bot or cold, wet or dry, he is always fonud ready to start on his daily journey of rwenty six miles. •His place is under the wagon or jast ahead of the horses. He is a great favorite and he is known not only in Lowell, bat all along his j (daily route. Everybody treats him i •with the greatest kindness, because he is friendly with all, unless someone should molest the property of his master, which he always guards, and allows no oue to intrude on his rights in this matter. The dogs along his route look upon him with envious eyes and the felines feel that they can get a much better view of his highness, and feel much safer, if they get well np in a friendly tree. Four and one-half years of this incessant travel of twenty six miles a day, gives him a record ol 36,634 miles. This is a record that cannot be beaten, if •equaled, by any dog in the United States: and what is most remark able about it he seems fresh and eager to go every morning, and shows no signs of giving out. We are not advised as to whether the Rural Route inspectors are keeping tab on him or not so as to find out whether he .is fonowingout^ainiie certainly has no more faithful servant.
