Many Country Schools to Close.

TberCwill be quite a large ieduction in the number of eouufr.» schools in Indiana next year, as the result of the new scnool laws, one of which requires the abandoning of all schools which ha ve an aver * age daily attendance of 12 or less In case of a school beiug thus closed, the township trustee is obliged to provide tramjportatiOn for the pupils in comfortable and sanitary Vehicles to other schools. Just how many of .the country schools in Jasper county will dose as a result of this law, can not yet be ascertained until all reports of thiß school year's attendance are received. And even then it will take some figuring to decide how many will be closed, for all which have had too small an attendance this year may not be closed, for in some cases two or more of the weak

schools may be consolidated where they are near enough together There is also a provision of the law which exempts from this compul sory closing feature, wreak schools in regions where the roads are too bad to make transporting the pupil practicable. County Superintendent Hamilton is getting data on this question now and in a month or two will have it pretty closely figured out, nowmany and which schools are tu be closed.
