This Is Refreshing.

James Russell Lowell, when American minister in London, received an Invitation from Lord Granville —then foreign secretary—to the effect that he was about to ask, at comparatively short notice, for the pleasure of the company at dinner of “the most engaged man in London.” To which Mr. Lowell wittily replied, according to Lord Edmond Fltzmauriee’s “Life of Lord Granville:" “The most engaged mnn In Loudon accepts with the greatest pleasure the kind Invitation of the most engaging.”
