Woman Gets Verdict.
Mrs. Laarella V. Holtham of Earl Park, Benton county, recovered a verdict 11,250 from a jury in the superior court at Lafayt t e yesterday in a suit against the American Surety company, bondsman for James Francis, who formerly conducted a saloon at Kentlaud, Newton county. The action for damages was brought under the statute which provides that the bondsmen of a saloon keeper shall stand responsible for the injury or death of persons to whom illegal sales of liquor have been made by a saloon keeper. Mrs. Holtham’s husband, Charles Q. [Holtham, was a well known business man in Earl Park. A year ago last January, on a Sunday he bought liquor at the Francis saloon at Kentland. On his way to Ear} Park he was thrown from a buggy, sustaining injuries which resulted in death. Mrs. Holtham sued for $2,000. The jury was out twenty-four h, urs.
