Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 39, Number 62, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 9 April 1907 — They Sat Up And Took Notice, [ARTICLE]
They Sat Up And Took Notice,
Under the heading “This Opened Our Eyes” the Crown Point Star reprinted an article from last week’s Republican in which the facts of Crown Point’s having re** fused the Interurban road a fran chise, and followed by the very true statement that there were other people wanting the road badly enough and willing to show the business and put up the cash to get it It was ajo t that woke up tie -qmcoleuf Crown Pointers cjnicker than anything that has happened to them since the last time the Etna Powder Works blew up. and they rushed aronnd and brought such a pressure on the town board that at their meeting on Monday nigut of this week the former ac tion was rescinded and the franchise was granted on the same Jackson street on which it had previously been refused. This action was followed up by very vigorous efforts to head the examining party thru Crown Point. However Lowell aDd Cedar Lake made so good showing of business prospects and were so anxious for the road, that it looks a good deal now as tho the bonding company’s engineer is more likely to report favorably on that route than the Crown Point route. Of course it is simply a business proposition with him and whichever route seems to promise the best from that point of view is the one likely to be selected. It will be pretty tongh tho if Hebron has to be cat out by choice of the Lowell and Cedar Lake route, for Hebron has been very friendly to the Infield people, all along.
