Up To Instructors.
A bulletin has been is ued by Fassett A. Cotton, state superintendent of public instruction, in regard to the acts of the legislature oearing on the public school. In conclusions of a discussion of the acts, is the statement: “A careful study will convince the reader that something substantial has been accomplished for the patrons and children as well as for the teachers themselves. It will al-o be observed that the responsibility of school officers and school teachers has likewise been increas ed. For the first time in the his tory of education in Indiana an educational standard providing larger requirements in scholarship aud professional on the part of the teachers has been established. “The poorly prepared and makeshafts have been eliminated from the calling. The old lawsstrengthened and the new ones point strongly to a more rapid realize tion of equal educational opportuni ty to all children in the state. With new opportunities and new duties it remains to be seen what the school will accomplish. Certainly a great deal remains for the teachers themselves to do ia order to prove to the legislature that they are worthp of the strong tions of the respect and confidence so recently expressed.”
