Gravel Road Contract Let.

The County Commissioners let th 3 contract for the Kankakee and Wheatfield township gravel road, eight miles in extent, and all but half a mile in Kankakee, at a special session Monday afternoon. Only two bids were submitted, and both by Remington firms, Conover & Taber got the contract, their bid being $22,500. The other bid was by Hawkins & Allman, being 122,70 C. The material to be used can be either gravel or stone, or bo h, at the option of the contractors. Thei e is some good gravel at the north end, near the Kankakee river which will probably be used as far as economical to haul it, while the rest will probably be of crushed rock shipped in. There has been some opposition, but its only manifestation at the letting wasja type written statement that the petition did not have a majority either of the land owners nor the acreage. There were many places for names on this notice, but that of John Finn was the only one attached.
