Death of A Former Resident.
Reedley, Cal., Exponent: On Thursday afternoon at 2:30 the relatives and many friends of Mrs. N. E. Porter gathered at the United Brethern church to pay their respects to ope who had labored lovingly in their midst Mrs. N. E Porter had been ill with an attack ot pneumonia for about two weeks but not until Saturday was she thought to be in a really dangerous condition, and when Dr. Hawkins was called it was too late to effect recovery. She had come to Reedley about two years ago, when her son Robert had been appointed principal of the Grammar school. Since that time other sons have come with their families until now there are living near here Chas. Porter. Isaac Porter and Wm. Porter. Jess Porter was her grandson. She had teen an earnest worker in Methodist church, and the funeral would have been held from that house of worship, but that it is undergoing repairs. Rev. Hughes conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Gallaher. At the conclusion of the service interment was m ide in the Reedley cemetery. R. M. Porter who was taken with nervous prostration, was sent to the banitarium on Wednesday, and was unable to attend 'he funeral of his mother with whom he had made his home. Mrs. Porter above referred to was the wife Jamesjof W. Porter, for many years a resident of Rensselaer, and its immediate vicinity, especially of a small farm just west of town, tho for some time before his death, which occurred here, they lived in town. One of her children still lives in thin county, Mrs. W. O. Nenson, of Wheatfield, and a well known teacher and photographer. Mrs. Robert Stephenson of Parr, is a sister of the above Mrs. Porter, and she has a brother and sister in Little River, Kansas, namely D. F. 8. Barkley and Mrs. Wingate Downing.
