State Board of Health Announces Its Rulings
The state bond of health made public yesterday its rulings with reference to the new pure food and drug law that went into e fleet two “weeksagQr— ———eAfter defining the various standards of food and drugs and giving the duties of the regular inspectors in the work of general inspection, the rules that govern general sanitary conditions are given, and the reading of these rules shows how far-reaching the new law is, covering as it does not only the general subjects of food and drug adulteration, but also the sanitary conditions of dairies, bakeries, abattoirs and slaughter houses, groceries and meat markets, hotels and restaurants. drug stores and soda fountains. The inspectors of the state board are given general charge of all such places of business, and within the next few months there will be a big agitation go up over the state with reference to the activity of these inspectors. As to the dairies, the buildings are to to oe well ventilated, properly lighted and provided with floors ot plark, cement, or other material
which can be properly washed and
cleaned, and the stables and milk rooms are to oe kept whitewashed or painted. The premises are at all times to be free irom objectionable material and “horses, hogsand pml try shall not he kept in the cow sheds.” Employes must be cleanly in their habits. The milk is not to be drawn from the udder until “the same has been properly cleansed by brushing or washing.” Minute directions follow concerning bakeries. Side walls and ceilings of every bake room or confectionery shall be well plastered, wainscoted or sealed with metal or lumber. Sleeping places of bakers shall be separate and apart from the bake room “and no person shall be allowed to sleep in a bake room or plrce where flour or meal or the products then of are stored.” “No dom Stic animal except cats shall be permitted to remain in a bake raom or place used !or the storage of flour or meal food products.” Employes of bakeries are to be healthy and cleanly, no expectoration and uo tuberculosis. Flies are to be kept out in fly time. The slaughter houses and abattoirs are to be kept in a general scientific, healthful and cleanly condition.
