Fought Under “Bobs.”
Mr. Jas. Pirie of Monon township was among the Herald’S cfilers last week. He is a. typical Scotchman and served under “Bobs” in the Afghanistan! war. He was also a neighbor of Sir Thomas Gladstone and was in his employ for two years on his farm in Aberdeenshire. Though now a loyal American citizen, he thinks this country could still take some pointers on government from Great Britain with advantage, especially in the enforcement of law. Over there, he says, horsethief detective associations are unanown aad unnecessary. 4 ‘lf your horse is stolen all you have to do is to notify an officer, and he will catch the thief if he has to follow him to Ameriky.” —Monticello Herald.
