Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 39, Number 43, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 1 February 1907 — For Two-Cent Fare. [ARTICLE]
For Two-Cent Fare.
The first state in the Union to establish 2-cent fares by law was Ohio. The second will be Indiana. The 2-eent fare bill before the legislature will be passed without opposition, says the Indianapolis Star. The railroad [Caesars came, saw and did not conquer. They have met the enemy, but he is. not theirs. The law will not go into effect until sixty days after its passage; it may allow a differential higher fares on trains, but this will likely be a nominal fee for stated graduated distances, and not a cent or fraction of a cent a mile. But it will cut fares down a third, and the railroads will try to look as pleasan t as possible.
