David E. Sherrick in Business.
David E. Sherrick, the former state auditor, who was recently given a new trial by the supreme court and was released from the state prisotj, has formed a part netship with Ed G. Sourbier, who has just ret ired from the office of sheriff in Marion county, and will enter into the real.estate business at Indianapolis. He and yis partner will also devote attention to insurance business.
New Postal Ruling.
The postmaster general has issued an order that on-and after March 1. next., all post cards bearing written messages upon the left ha’f of the front, the right half beiag reserved for the address and postmark, shall be admitted to both the domestic and international mailsofthis country. Heretofore the rules of theidepartmeni required that one side ol the card should be reserved tor the address only.
Remonstrance Fight.
The temperance forces at Francesville are making a big fight to rid that town of its three saloons. For a number of days remonstrances Lave lieen quietly circulated and the leaders in the fight against the liquor element uow claim that they already have enough signers altho their territory has not all l>een canvassed. Super intendent Schumaker of South Bend of the Anti-Saloon League, is direct ing the fight. It is . not known when the remonstrance will be filed. The licensed oue saloon expires in February, another iu September and the third iu December.—Win amac Republican.
Presittent to Visit Indianapolis.
President Roose v elt is planning to visit Indianapolis on Memorial Day and deliver an address at the unveiling of the monum'" r to Gen. Henry W. Lawton. It . almost be definitely announced la it he wil be there. His pions as they stand provide that he shall go from Washington direct to Indianapolis to attend the fiftieth anniversary of the Michigan Agricultural college. He will not visit Indiana university or an> other educational institution in Indiana on this trip. Barris Proved To Be A Faker.
Bedford, Ind., Jan. 3.—Prosecutor Fletcher, of Lawrence jjpounty, has finally decided that there is nothing in the confession made by I Gehtge W. Harris alias ‘Berger in which he confessed at Goshen that he was the slayer of Miss Sarah Schafer, the Latin teacher of this city on Jiu. 21, 1904. Harris will uow be sent to the state penitentiary to serve a sentence of two to fourteen years on another charge. The grand jury was to meet here tomorrow to take up the matter ot I returning an indictment against Harris, but Prosecutor Fletcher | tonight notified all the members not to come. According to Prosecutor Fletcher it ha* been post lively determined that Harris was 3 nthe DUitr state penitentiary on the date that the Schafer murder took-place. ...■-.
