A New County Proposed.
The people of Hammond and other towns in the north end of Lake county, are boosting a movement for a new county to be cut off from the north end of Lake county. It looks like Crown Point people might well be glad to see this done, lor otherwise it might not be many years before Hammond, Whiting. East Chicago and Gary will be united in one big city with vastly more population than all the rest of Lake county, and in that case the county seat would be sure to be removed to the big city. Lake county has 500 square miles ot area and under the state constitution not more than 100 miles can be taken oft as;uo county now in ex istence can be reduced below 400 square miles. Therefore the new one, if formed, can not have more than 100 square miles area. There s plenty of population already there for a large county.
