TO ENFORCE THE SPITTING ORDINANCE.
On orders ot u.e Mayor and City Health Officers, an attempt is to be made to enforce the long neglected and almost forgotten anti spitting ordinance, and City Marshal Parks has posted up notices all over town stating that iu the interests of decency and public health, The ordinance would be enforced. And surely this action is taken none too soon. The constant condition of our sidewalks from spit is filthy and disgusting beyond measure, and scarcely a square yard of walk in the whole business district tbp.t is not marred and dirty with a great spatter of tobacco juice. And it is not only tobacco users who thus defile the walks, but other people also, and along with the spatters of tobacco spit, may also be seen the even more disgusting ejections of people suffering with colds and catarrh. Why will not the people who do this spitting see for themselves how disgusting their habit is to everybody else, and decide to reform it without any arrests and prosecutions! It surely would be a mighty little trouble to step to the side of the walk and launch their dangerous and explosive missiles into the gutter instead of on the walks. For the sake of common decency let us have a thoro reform in this matter and a healthyjpublic sentiment be built up which will prevent any general recurrence of the spitting custom.
