TROUNCED THANKSGIVING VISITORS.
Foot Ball Season Closed With an Easy Victory. It was almost a record breaking crowd that attended the Thanksgiving foot ball game and witnessed the home team run up a score of 34 to 0 against Englewood, of Chicago. From the spectators viewpoint the game was not nearly so enjoyable as the game the previous Saturday, but local sympathy was so strong that a victory of any sort was fai more satisfying than a closer game with Rensselaer the losers. It developed when the visitors arrived that it was not the regular Englewood high school team, but six students from that school who had been barred from playing on the regular team because they were fraternity members or had flunked in their studies, while the balance of the team was made up of athlectic players including a fine all-around athlete named" Stough, who had coached the team and who was easily their best player. There playing was very ragged and Rensselaer might easily have made "their "score somewhat larger, but eased up considerably the second half and towards the end cafied in all the substitutes to replace the regular team. At the end of the second half Englewood secured the ball within three feet of their own goal, and to prevent worse consequences, touched the ball back of the line, making a safety and adding two points to Rensselaer’s score. It was the last game Captain Hcmer Dobbins in' high school, as he is one of this year’s Seniors, and he put his very best efforts into his voledietory high school foot ball appearance, and played brilliantly. Morgan was also at his best, and wnile both these strong, fleet and daring half backs suffered severe injuries in the early parts of the game they stuck to their positions thruout the game.
A resume of the seasons playing shows the following: Oct. 6, Oakwood, of Lafayette, 6; Rensselaer 36. Oot, 27, Oak Park, of Chicago, 0 Rensselaer, 6. Nov. 17, Central, of Lafayette, 0; Rensselaer, 17. Nov. 21, Culver Military Academy, 11, {Rensselaer, 0. Nov. 29,[Englewood, of Chicago, 0; Rensselaer. 34. The more noticeable players on a foot ball team are always the backs and Dobbins, Morgan and Kirk have figured as the stars in almost every contest, while the excellent work of the men in the line have passed unrewarded by newspaper, praise. It is probable that there is no high school line in the state that will nearly meet up to the excellence of Beam at center, Hershman and Elder at guards and Hopkins and Woodworth at tackles, while Coen and Yeoman have played admirably at ends, both being fleet footed, accurate in tackling and danntless in courage Duvall and Brenner, at quarter, played coolly and used good judgment in calling the plays. Parkin-
son made good beyond expectations for one of his weight at both half and end and Long at foil back played effectively whenever used. Gorham likewise substituted in good style at center. It was a strong line thruout and a fine foot ball team figured from any point of view.
