' Fifty-One Years Ago. JASPER BANNER, Nov. 29, 1855. A call was issued for a public meeting on Dec. 9, at the court house to consider business of importance in connection with proposed Fort Wayne & Platt Valley railroad. ■ Editorial mention was made of this call in which the sarcastic advire was given to drop this railroad project and go iu for an Under Ground Railroad. The editor suggested that “work” il not capital eonld be profitably invested in such a road. Which was evidently a hit at County Auditor Work, who had sent the delinquent tax list out of the county, and who by this hit was made to appear 0.. e of those monsters iu human form (in our old editor’s view that is) an abolitionist. The editor was still raving mad abont t-ds tax list matter and said it was done at the behest of a few “Black Republicans” and for the gratification of the most ignoble motives. , Mrs. Matilda Shannahan died in Barkley Tp., on Nov. 19, aged 19 years. E. T. Harding and D. T. Hafstcad published a notice of the dissolution of the firm of Harding & Halstead.
