Will Prist Own Stamps. Postmaster General Oortelyou has awarded bureau of engraving and printing of the treasury department the contract for furnishing postage stamps and books of stamps for the postal service during the period of four years beginning Feb. 1, 1907. There were only two bidder, the bureau of engraving and printing and the American Bank Note company of New York. Had the award been given to the bank note company the annual saving to the government would have been about $17,000. lu -a memorandum Mr. Oortelyou says: “It appears to be the policy of the government to manufacture its currency, revenue stamps securities, etc , by its own agencies and it would be contrary to that policy to give over to a private company the contract for the manufacture of postage stamps solely’ for the purpose of saving an amount relatively small and large ly problematical.”
Indiana's Growing Wealth. That Indiana people have been acqu i ring weal th rapid 1 y during the last few years is shown by a bulletin just isssued by the Census Bureau at Washington. The bulletin tells a story of prosperity in the Hoosier state. A comparison is drawn between the years 1900 and 1904. In 1904 the average per capita wealth of Indian 5 people was $1,173.73, a difference of $137.95. The total valuation of all Indiana property increased from $2,606,493,004 in 1900 to $3,105,781,739 in 1904. State Rifle Range. Adjutant-General Oran Perry of the State National Guard and Capt. D. L. McCormack, have about decided that the state rifle will be located fin Morgan county. This site gives a 1,001 yard range. If this site is decided on it will be leased for ten years and the state will take the option of buying at the end of that time. Monticello has been offering a site for this range, on the banks of the Tippecanoe, which has also been quite favorably considered. Trinity M. E. Church. s The pastor's morning subject for next Sabbath will be “Nearness to the Kingdom.” Evening subject, “The Passion for God.” The choir will furnish special music morning and evening. The foot ball team composed of members of Co. M, of Rensselaer, will go to Monticello at 2:04 tomorrow to play Co. C of that place. The Rensselaer team will have several of the high school players, | on it, and should be an especially strong team. Some of the high i school players with college athletic | ambitions were doubtful about the propriety of playing in an athletic i contest, but this difficulty has been ■ cleared away by an affidavit from Dr. A.
