City Fathers Have A Talk.

The City Council at their regular meeting Mon. night took no formal action ©n any matters, further than considering and allowing claims. Considerable informal discussion was had about certain matters, but more especially the electrip light system. There seems a disposition among the members to think that a change might be advisable in the near future regarding rates to make them more uniform and perhaps on the whole more remunerative. Especially was the advisability of installing a universal meter system talked about. It'was agreed by all, however, that nothing should be. decided upon until the expert audit of the city books for several years past and now in progress be concluded, and report made, when it is expected the actual financial workings of the light plant will be reported on and the Council can then see whether the system as now conducted is on a self paying basis or not. J There was also some discussion regarding the work and duties of the City Marshal, the question being raised whether or not the duties of Marshal and Street Commissioner are now combined in our one official and if so whether the present needs of the city would not be better served if more attention were paid to streets, side-walks, sewers etc., and less to the more ornamental but perhaps not more useful function of peace officer.
