M’COY CASES ARE POSTPONED.
The McCoy cases were called for trial in Monticello Tuesday, that is the cases against Alfred McCoy, and on the agreement of the attor- i nejß were continued until the November term. * Uncle Alfred, who has bean staying with his daughter, Mrs. William Rhinehart, at Queen City, Mo., came to Montictllo, accompanied by his wife, and it was rumored that he was ready to plead guilty to the charge of embezzlement contained in the next indictment, and that if this was done in all probability the other cases would be dismissed. This would have consumed only a small amount of time, and the continuance came as a surprise to almost everyone here. Prosecuting Attorney Graves of Morocco, was on hand but Deputy Leopold did not go over. If the cases are to be postponed from time to time until finally dropped from the docket, without prosecution, no one here seems to know, and Attorney Leopold thinks no agreement to that effect has been made. It is quite probable, however, that no one in Jasper county wants to have the appearanee of persecution of Uncle Mac and that prosecution on any of the remaining charges may never be made. Uncle Mac is reported to be looking qnite well, and to have improved somewhat after the long rest following the long, nerve-racking trial that convicted Tom.
