Wild Acts of a Drink-Crazed Maniac
Jess Grayson who is employed at Harmon’s livery stable, relates a remarkable experience he had Monday eveuing in taking a drunk man namtd Gioude in company with his wife and baby to the home of Carl Rem n, near Francesville. A 4-yeare-olu child of the couple had died at the home of its grandparents the Benins, and the parents were coming down to the funeral, and the father had got drunk on the way down. The man soon began to curse and thqn to strike the woman and refused to stop when Grayson ordered him to do so. He struck her four distinct times, he said, blacking her eyes and applying to her the most foul names. Finally Grayson struck the man in the face with his elbow with snch force as to render him unconscious, and he did not regain his senses nntil they had reached the Remn house. Here several women and men had gathered and Gioude ordered everyone from the house and opening his knife chased them out. He then wrapped the body of the little corpse in an apron and ran from the house with it and ordered Grayson to bring him back to Rensselaer. Grayson refused and he charged at him with the knife, and it was a long time before he would settle the livery bill. During the dispute the corpse lay across the corner of the kitchen table.
