The United States army now consists of about sixty-two thousand officers and men. By the way, what has become of Mr. BrVau's fear of the United States army which he thought two years ago was being trained for the task of laying siege to the large cities of the country with a view to shooting down the working men! We overlooked any signs of apprehension on this subject if they were manifested in Mr. Bryan’s New York speech. Judge Wm. Darroch, oi Kentland is here today, looking after legal business. Tho the judge is the Democratic nominee for Congress in this district, it would be a pretty strong figure of speech to speak of him as our "next Congressman.” Yet in a cer f ain limited sense it might be all right too, tor he will be next —to Judge Crumpacker, iu number pf votes polled. Yet that is a case where a man tho he is next ■will still be a long ways ofl'. However Mr. Darroch is a nice, sensible man and he bears his political honors, such as they are, with be coming modesty. In personal character and ability he is a man who would be no discredit to any party as itscongressional candidate.
