Paint manufacturers widely advertise their secret •? 5 processes, wonderful formulas and scientific machinery, but the •? S cold fact is they all make their paints in the same way, from the S Z same materials, mixed in substantially the same proportions. The S 5 results are practically the same. Their paints flake, peel and B J crack in one-third the time they should. S jj It is an axiom that linseet;! oil is the -life of paints; that 2 when the oil is gone the paint comes off. This is true. The 8 Z trouble is with the pigments, they fail to protect the oil. White w Z lead, zinc, the oxides, ochres, barytes, and all the other stock m materials which are used as a base for paint, do not prolong the B 2 life of oil. Some of them greatly shorten it.
