In an article in Tuesday's Indi■a apolis Star discnssing the effect of military training on young men the writer among other things says: ■‘The science of warfare, taught to Indiana militiamen by thetheory of induction, is more interesting than grammer *or but »these two school subjects were brought into play in war. ‘•The boy who has been lazy in school because of lack of m- tive be comes a zealous student of old school books as soon as he enters a military organization. He figures on things with a new enthusiasm. He watches his handwriting if he chances Io hate any clerical work, he bees Officers better dressed than he and indulges in commendable mimicry in honoring his superiors. “The task of having something to do and doing it well under the surveillance of officers whose personalities command not only admiration but respect, makes the youth industrious. •‘Many of the men are young. Those who began as cringing pri vates and stuck to the work have been advanced.
