Navy Not Attractive.
Because he could not obtain more than two enlistments for the navy in three weeks, Lieut. J. H. Contort has closed the recruiting station at South Bend and has transferred his headquarters to Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Mich. Lieut. Contort attributes his ill luck to the prosperous condition of South Bend. “There is plenty of employment for young men in South Bend,” said the officer, “and all who wish to work can command good wages.”
