Another Sensation On Front Street.
The region ot town ovir around the south end of Frontstreet had anTuesday evening* Abput nine o’clock, or a little late?, the residents of that; section. heard a prolonged series of screams from a woman’s throat, miugled with cries for help and protection, and so loud and long continued that men and boys came running toward the scene, from every direction. At first the sounds came from along the south part of Front street* and then from Work street, in front of the Meyer and Thompson residences. Frank Foltz, the attorney, who lives near was one of the first to hear the screams, and running out to the sidewalk and starting west he was met directly by the author of the screams, a "youog girl who ran up and seized his arm and begged for protection. He almost immediately perceived that the girl had been drinking, and was much intoxicated. He took her to the porch of H. W. Reeves’ house, close by, where she was given a chair, and soon recovered from her hysterics and partly from her liquor. Among the others who heard her screams and were soon on the spot, was Dr. H. J. Kannal, of south River street. He reported that as he came from his place a young man in a buggy drove across the river near the old oil well like mad and and whipped his horses out of sight, to the west. The girl refused to give any account of herself, but after sobering up a little she said she had worked at a hotel here. On investigation it was found that she was a girl who lately came from Newton county, and after working two weeks had been discharged, not from any observed misconduct, but beingtoo slow and generally inefficient It appeared she had been riding around town with a sporty son of a very respect able family, and had been drinking with him, liquor he had bought at one; of the saloons and later, Jtor_ reasons best known to themselves, for she did not explain that point, she had set up a fearful screaming, and jumper* out of the boggy while the young man hiked out. Police Zea was called, and for want of any thing better to do, he was about to take the girl to the jail, bat about that time the young man she had been with ventured back, and took her in charge. She appeared not at all averse to going away with him again.
