Slaughter Houses To Be Examined.

County and city health officers a’l over Indiana, are receiving from the state board of health, through Secretary Hatty, instruc-* tionstomake a thorough inspection and examination of all slaughter houses and packing houses in their respective jurisdictions, and to ieport their condition to the state board. Among the points to be covered by the reports are the following: ‘“Location —Is it near to habitation; how far from corporations, etc. “Building —Is it wood, brick, stone, new, old, dilapitated, foul, etc? “Describe immediate surroundings and approach. “Describe drainage and water supply. “Are hogs fed on the offal? If so are they killed for food or sold? Describe condition of hog yard. “Are the animals for slaughter properly eared lor and inspected? “Is the slaughtering done in a cleanly and skilhul way? Are flies excluded and is the meat cooled in cold storage? “Is tallow pr lard rendering done and if bo is the process clean and proper? “Are tanking operations carried on? if so are they sanitarily conducted and is an open or closed tank used? “Are sausage and chopped meats meats prepared and if so is the work cleauly aud properly done? Are chemical preservatives used? “Is the meat well protected from dust and flies when hauled away,, and is it handled in a cleanly manner?'’
