< i CANAL BONDS ON SALE. Secretary Shaw Announces Y30,~ 000,000 Issue of Securities. Ths Secretary of the Treasury has offered to the public the opportunity to subscribe for $30,000,000 of the bonds of the Panama. Canal loan recently authorized by Congress. The terms of the subscription are such as to give every citizen of the United States an opportunity to bid for the bonds, and bidders for the smallest amounts will be given priority in the allotment in cases where the prices offered are equal. The bonds will not be sold for less than par. Bids should be addressed to the Secretary of the Treasury, division bf loans and currency, and the envelopes inclosing blds should be marked: “Bids for* Panama Canal Bonds.” The bonds will bear interest at 2 per cent, payable quarterly on the Ist days of November, February, May and August They will be dated Aug. 1, 1906, and bids for them must be in before July 20. The bonds are redeemable in gold coin at the pleasure of the government after ten years and mature in thirty. The bonds will be exempt from government, statq or.municipal .taxes, and will be available to national banks as security for circulation and for government deposits. In order to make the Issue popular and give every citizen a chance to subscribe, the bonds will be issued in denominations of S2O, SIOO and SI.OOO in ..coupons and S2O, SIOO, SI,OOO and SIO,OOO registered. National banks may use the new bonds as security for circulating notes upon the same terms as the 2 per cent consols of 1930. Subscribers to the issue are asked to name, in addition to the amount of bonds desired and the price offered, the place where they desire to make payment. whether at the treasury of the United States or at the office of one of the assistant treasurers at New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, New Orleans or San Francisco.
