Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 38, Number 83, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 13 July 1906 — ALL THE BONDS SOLD. [ARTICLE]
ALL THE BONDS SOLD.
Bonds to tbe Amount Of $16730 Sold Here Tuesday. ■ The biggest sale of bonds ever made at one time in Jasper county was consumated here last Tuesday afternoon, by Auditor Leatherman and Treasurer Nichols. They were the Iroquois ditch bonds, $74,500 in amount, the Parker or three townships road bonds, $13,000 in amount, and the Marion and Rensselaer stone road bonds, SBO,OOO in amount. The Iroquois Ditch bonds, which were ogered a month ago and failed to sell at five per cent interest were offered this time at 54 per cent. They were bought by W. J. Hays & Son, of Cleveland, Ohio, at $74,550, or a premium of SSO. The only other bid was Hochler & Co., Toledo, $74,540. The Jordan road bonds, sold to E. L. Hollingsworth, of Rensselaer, for $12,082 or a premium of SB2. The interest is 41 per cent. Other bids: Breed & Harrison, Cincinnati, $13,005; E. T. Bush, Cincinnati, $13,0?(); <E. T. « Harris, of Rensselaer, $13,081.
The Marion and Rensselaer Stone Roads bonds, SBO,OOO in amount, sold to Breed & Harrison, of Cincinnati, for $80,475. The interest is 44 per cent. Other bids were, E. T. Harris, Rensselaer $80,451. Union Saving Bank, Cincinnati $80,194. E. M. Campbell & Co., Indianapolis $80,330. Kleybolte, $80,430. E. T. Bush & Co., $80,207. The total amount of bonds sold was $167,500, and they sold for $168,057, or aAotal premium of $557. The reason why the road bonds sold as well at 4 J per cent interest as the ditch bonds did at 54 per cent is partly explained by the fact that only the land which the ditch is assessed for is holden for those bonds while in the case of the road bonds the whole township is holden for them.
All thesensales were made subject ’to approval of the legal steps that have been taken all through, in the various matters involved, by the attorneys of the purchasers. If they are all reported all right, it means the early beginning of work on the Marion and Rensselaer roads, and the pushing forward of the ditch and the Jordan road, both works oi which are already in pro grew.
