A Very Notable Social Affair.

The most notable social function in the way of a reception ever held in Rensselaer, took place last Saturday afternoon ai d evening, at the . residence of Mrs. - Alfred Thompson, on River street, and was given jointly by herself and ■daughter, Mrs. Ora Ross. The guests of honor were Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Job, of Chicago, the former being the well-known secretary „of the Employers’ Association of that city. The guests were received by Mrs Thompson and Mrs. Ross, and Mr. Mter ? atboth after. noon and evening 250 were received and entertained. Very fine refreshments of sandwiches, chicken salad, pickles, icecream and cake were served. The decorations were of sweet peas ard were very profuse and tasteful. Music was furnished by a harp and violin from the city. The refreshment were served by six girl friends of the hostesses in the afternoon, and by 12 others in the evening. In the evening dancing was a feature of the entertainment.
