THE BIG DREDGE IS HERE.

The main machinery for the new Sternberg Dredge is now on the cars near the Coen & Brady elevator except certain small parts whieh have been unloaded. The two spud legs, for instance, which are comparatively small parts, have been unloaded and hauled away and each made a large load for a team of horses. It took three flat cars to bring in the machinery, and one of these is a double length car. The main boom is loaded on this car and reaches its whole length and projects over on the next car 12 feet. This boom alone weighs 12 tons, and a special wagon is being sent from South Bend, to haul it oat on, as no wagon this side of there conld holdits weight. What a float for our Fourth of July celebration this wagon with the boom on it and the string of teams needed to hanl it, would make. The dredge, as has already been stated, is the largest in the Btatc. It cost SII,OOO, at Dayton, Ohio, and the freight bill here was S2OO. Besides this there was another car load of smaller parts, received last week. The boat built to carry it has already been named the Ark, from its enormous size. It stands in the river, just below the Stack house bridge, and is already attracting many visitors. But when it gets the machinery on and is throwing out dirt at the rate of two and a half wagon loads at each seoopfhl it will draw risitors from miles •round.

In the mean time the three car loads of machinery standing on the tracks here are well worth a visit to see, by hnyone at all interested in machinery. ■ Make 3 our headquarters at Murray’s Big Department Store July %.
