Brother Kitt Denies It Flat-footed.

. ... March 7th, 1906. Ed. Republican: I notice that you refer to the attack through the Hammond Tri buneofjno. O. Bowers, referee in bankruptcy, on the Goodland Her ahi and everything else in sight because the Herald publ’sher, Mr. Shephard, saw fit to criticise his administration of Gilman bankrupt affair. I desire to say that the.Goodland Herald does not owe the Gilman estate one dollar, said claim having been satisfied, and that if it did the referee’s public intimation that those who criticised him would be subjected to the terrors of his wrath would have had no effect in closing the columns of the Herald against just criticism. If Mr. Bikers proposes to publish all who flud fault with the slow progress of the Goodland case he will have all of the Goodlttnd creditors of the Home Bank under the whip. However, we have taken the position that the referee has been doing the very best that he could in the matter, and that he has moved as fast as good judgment and the exigencies of the case would suggest, and the writer of this was in no way responsible for the criticism in the Herald. But if we felt that such comment was justly due (and Mr. Shepard evidently had reason to think it was) we would not hesitate to express it, even if the referee should uncork his wrath to the

limit.
